Welcome to Letters from Rome.
Stories of Italian heritage and life in the Eternal City.
I’m Michelle Ciani, an Italo-American writer and educator living in Rome since 2018. After working in journalism, education, and public diplomacy across seven countries I landed in Italy and most days can’t believe I’m here.
Letters from Rome is a collection of moments and musings from my daily life. I write about all things that inspire me, all that is beautiful – and sometimes – all that isn’t. Mostly, I write about the search for home and belonging. All of my writing is informed and inspired by Roma.
Rome is my lens and my backdrop.
What you’ll find here:
– Reflections on my everyday life in Italy
– Seasonal rhythms and quiet rituals
– Thoughts on home, place and belonging
These letters are an ongoing attempt to belong—to a place, to a rhythm, to myself.
This is not a guide to Rome.
It’s a lived-in portrait of one person’s life here, reflective and rooted in curiosity.
If you’ve ever been drawn to Italy, or wondered what it means to create a sense of home far from where you started, you may feel at home here, too.
Thanks for reading.

p.s.: If you’ve been wanting to write and don’t know where to start or think it’s too late to even begin then I have a writing guide for you that just might help :)
